AMEC Paragon's capabilities for onshore and marine pipeline projects include:
  • Project management
  • Database-driven pipeline mapping and geographic information system (GIS) applications
  • Environmental and permitting support
  • Modeling and flow assurance
  • Corrosion detection and control
  • Pipeline integrity management
  • Operations and maintenance
  • Design of associated pumping, metering, and compression facilities

With Enroute, AMEC Paragon's proprietary, database-driven automated work process for pipeline design,

  • All deliverables are generated from a single database
  • Data is always accessible both locally and remotely (via the Web)
  • Alignment sheets are produced automatically
  • Procurement and expediting databases are populated automatically
  • Project data is shared from a centralized repository in real time across all applications - CAD, GIS, PDA, Web
  • When a change is made in the database, it is "red-flagged" on all affected documents
  • The latest revision of each engineering deliverable is available via a Web-enabled electronic document management system, with older versions also available for historical tracking
  • All documents are searchable and cross-referenced by descriptive "metadata" such as purchase order number, tag number, line number, etc.
  • All forms of data are incorporated, including government datasets, commercial datasets, land ownership records, satellite imagery, aerial photography, digital elevation models, laser scan data, and survey data

The end result:

  • Reduced design and mapping time
  • Single-point data entry for all associated deliverables, reducing human error and rework
  • Quick evaluation of a wide array of "what-if" scenarios to arrive at best route option
  • Accommodation of route adjustments without requiring engineering rework and associated delays
  • Clear documentation of route selection process and alternative analysis
  • Easy transfer of design data to operations databases for ongoing use
Signature Project: Mardi Gras Transportation System
Customer: BP
Location: Gulf of Mexico area, onshore and offshore
Description: Onshore and offshore shelf pipelines, facilities, and tie-ins to transport oil and gas from deepwater developments to markets in Louisiana
Scope of Work: In addition to providing engineering and procurement for the onshore and offshore shelf portions of the project, AMEC Paragon provided system-wide procurement; cost control; schedule control; health, safety and environmental (HSE); document control; quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC); human factors engineering (HFE); and hydraulic modeling services.

Benefits Realized:

  • Reduced survey expenditures by accurately utilizing available data
  • Reduced material costs through automatic calculation of 3D pipe lengths
  • Avoided expensive field adjustments by accurately reflecting all field conditions
  • Accelerated construction survey time by providing the contractors with GIS centerline data
  • Identified and avoided all environmentally sensitive areas
  • Quickly secured all permits by providing tangible alternative route analysis based on calculated impacts
  • Connected and aligned all involved parties by making all data available on a secured Website
  • Minimized the contractor's stringing time by automatically generating a pipe list my mile-post
  • Project data readily accepted into customer's operational GIS system to aid in ongoing operations
