We offer a full range of safety services in a wide range of industries. Some examples of the safety services that we offerare listed below:

Hazards Analyses
Our safety professionals can lead and facilitate all types of Process and Safety Hazards Analyses. On larger projects, we generally use a three-step approach.

In the early stages of a project we conduct a Preliminary Process Hazards Analysis (PPHA). The purpose of the PPHA is to identify major hazards and to provide an estimate as to their associated risk. At this stage we also examine strategic safety decisions such as whether a Safety Instrumented System is to be installed, or whether a helideck should be installed on an offshore platform. Generally, the documentation needed for a PPHA consists of PFD (Process Flow Diagrams), preliminary P&IDs (Piping & Instrument Diagrams), and layout plans. In addition to identifying major hazards, and helping with strategic design decisions, the PPHA identifies any major budget impacts that the safety program may have.

Also, at the beginning of a project, we will set up a Risk Register to collect and organize all hazards identified through the course of the project.

In the second stage of the project (often referred to as FEED for Front-End Engineering Design) we generally conduct a full Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP). This is a line-by-line analysis that aims to identify, and risk rank potential hazards.

Once the project is in construction and close to start-up, we can conduct a third stage What-If / Checklist study to identify any remaining safety issues. We also verify that all outstanding issues in the Risk Register have been properly closed out.

Operating and Maintenance Procedures
Our safety and human factors groups have many years of experience in the writing of operating and maintenance procedures. We generally follow a highly structured top-down approach. At the highest level we prepare checklists for use by experienced operators and personnel.

Process Safety Management
We provide a full range of Process Safety Management (PSM) services to clients in the upstream, midstream, pipeline, refining and chemicals businesses. We can help you address regulatory requirements, conduct revalidation PHAs, run audits and work with external agencies - particularly OSHA and the EPA.

Industry
We help clients understand the requirements of a wide range of industry consensus standards from organizations such as API (American Petroleum Institute), NACE (the National Association of Corrosion Engineers), and NFPA (the National Fire Protection Agency). We were instrumental in the development of the two critical offshore standards: API 14C and API 14J.

Regulatory Compliance
We are familiar with many of the regulations that our clients must address. We also keep up to date with the latest trends. For example, in response to the recommendations of the Kyoto protocol, the International Finance Corporation (an arm of the World Bank) has developed stringent requirements for the elimination of flaring at oil fields, both offshore and on-shore. We are following this and similar rulings very closely because they are likely to have a major impact on our clients' operations in the coming years.
